A requirement for mobile vendors to attend a food-handling course was also eliminated from the ordinance, which has been in the works for years and has been in front of the council numerous times without ever making it to adoption.

The measure would require that food trucks and other mobile food vendors move at least 150 feet every two hours. The current requirement is that vendors move every 20 minutes, though it is rarely enforced.

The Jersey Journal spoke to brothers Bill and Gus Papathanasis, who run two food trucks that sit outside the university campus every weekday. The men said they shouldn’t be forced to move every two hours, arguing that they don’t compete with any restaurants.
