If you’re in the vicinity of the Big Lots store Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m., you can grab some gourmet grub at the weekly Milpitas Street Eats.

Grillaz Gone Wild This Livermore based truck serves up a variety of food from burgers to Philly Cheese steaks.

Conklin  At Conklin it’s all about the food of Indonesia.  There’s chicken satay, beef dishes, jasmine rice and for dessert who can say no to Pisang Panggang –a grilled banana topped with cheddar cheese, sweetened condensed milk and chocolate syrup.

We Sushi  As the name implies, this is the truck where you can get your sushi on.  If you prefer classics like sashimi and nigiri you’ll like We Sushi.  If you like something a little more adventurous like Spicy California Roll topped with albacore and lightly seared jalapeno then this is also the truck for you.

Tacos de los Altos This food truck may be small but it boasts a mighty large Super Burrito, filled with all the basics, and your choice of meat, including BBQ Pork and Chile Verde Pork.

Road Dogs  If you believe the folks who post on Yelp, then these guys know their way around a hot dog and tater tots.

Spice it up Cafe  As you make your way to the various food trucks make sure you save some room for dessert at this truck.  There are fresh mini donuts and themed crepes like the Thai Crepe Deluxe that sports a filling of sliced bananas and nutella and is topped with whipped cream and chocolate sauce.

After taking last week off for the Thanksgiving holidays, six gourmet food trucks will set up shop at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the parking area outside the Big Lots store in the Serra Shopping Center, 200 Serra Way.

They will be serving up a wide selection hot and cold food entrees, snacks, beverages, and desserts for alfresco diners until 9 p.m.

Below is a list of these week’s food trucks:

Grillaz Gone Wild – A gourmet food truck offering Philly cheesesteaks, Hoagies and other gourmet sandwiches.

Pacific Coast Highway – Enjoy a long line-up of comfort foods, from vegetable and cheese filled quesadillas to hamburgers.

Tastee Bytes – The Deep South comes to the South Bay with specialties such as the Rajun Cajun Kaun Dog and Tastee Wings.

Tacos de los Altos – This food truck may be small but it boasts a mighty large Super Burrito, filled with all the basics, and your choice of meat, including BBQ Pork and Chile Verde Pork.

Sugar Tree – This mobile sweet shop offers all sorts of tasty treats, ranging from organic cotton candy to lollipops.

WE Sushi – Find everything from traditional California rolls to the “WE Sushi” burrito at this Japanese food truck.

Food truck fanatics, you’re in luck. Two out of the seven trucks at Wednesday evening’s Milpitas Street Eats are new, according to April Bibbins, the Food Truck Mafia Coordinator.

Catch the event every Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Big Lots store in the Serra Shopping Center, 200 Serra Way.

Below is a run-down of what to expect.

Louisiana Territory This truck brings classic New Orleans dishes like Jambalaya to the South Bay. Some, like the ‘Bayou Burrito’, even have a Californian twist.

Biggshrimp’n This truck demonstrates the many ways to deck out, dip and devour shrimp.

Brothers Gow Chow  Sample the tastiest Greek-influenced specialties, from “Feta Fries” to “Loukamathes”, fritters topped with chocolate or honey walnut syrup.

TaKoz Mod Mex The San Jose-based food truck offers traditional Mexican dishes at reasonable prices. Tacos — which come in beef, pork, chicken or veggie — are $2.

Road Dogs Find an assortment of hot dogs, from the Chili Dog to the “Bra Bra Dog”.

Yummi BBQ True to its name, this truck serves the tasty meats in a tangy sauce.

The food truck craze sweeping the Bay Area has come to Milpitas.

Every Monday at 5 p.m., Milpitas’ own Bigg Shrimp’n food truck will open up shop at Dixon Landing Park.

Operated by 28-year-old Milpitas native Viet Nguyen and a handful of friends, the truck is slugged as the Bay Area’s First Shrimp Truck, serving up a variety of shrimp-based Vietnamese dishes.

“It’s great food I’ve eaten all my life,” Nguyen said. “Vietnamese food is something people are liking more and accepting more.”

Growing up in the Dixon Landing Park area, Nguyen thought setting the truck up there was the ideal place to start his business.

Most recently he worked in the software and solar industries. When his contract with a Silicon Valley solar company ended June 1, Nguyen thought about a career change.

His choice was to bring the food he loved to the people of Milpitas.

“I want to grow this small business from Milpitas outward,” he said. “I’m proud to say I’m based in Milpitas, and I want to capture Milpitas before I bring this before the masses.”

Nguyen had soft openings for the Bigg Shrimp’n truck at his home earlier this summer to get feedback from family and friends. So far the results have been positive, and Monday was the grand opening.

He plans to bring the truck to the park every Monday, eventually popping up in other Milpitas neighborhoods.

While other food trucks in the Bay Area may set up in industrial or commercial parking lots, Nguyen is focusing on parks.

“I do see a lot of success in parking lots,” he said. “But I wanted to get into the parks, promote active lifestyles and eating fresh foods.”

Dishes he serves up include shrimp tacos, butterfly shrimp, garlic shrimp and shrimp sandwiches. Daily specials will include shish-kebobs and rice plates as well. Prices range from $3 for a taco and $7 for a sandwich.

Nguyen is not working the truck alone. He has as many as 10 people total working, with five people on two different shifts.

Bigg Shrimp’n will be at the park from 5 to 10 p.m. every Monday.

“I’m working with other trucks right now,” he said. “And my next goal is to get together with them for a meet-up here in Milpitas.”
