<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.mobilefoodnews.com/?attachment_id=47849" rel="attachment wp-att-47849"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-47849" alt="CA-irvine-crispa_crepes" src="http://www-mobilefoodnews-com.zippykid.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/CA-irvine-crispa_crepes.png" width="360" height="72" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">There are a few crepes purveyors already out there in our county (I count about a dozen or so), along with a food truck dedicated to the French specialty. The last one I remember trying was Crepes de Paris, which folded (bad pun intended) not because it wasn&#8217;t good, but because it was in Diamond Jamboree, an Asian center that really had no room for anything other than Asian eateries.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a name="more"></a></p>
<div style="text-align: justify;">Now a new entrant is ready to enter the realm of thin pancakes. Crispa Crepes is slated to take over the space vacated by Cherry On Top on Irvine Blvd. near Culver in Irvine.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">The description posted on the Irvine Retail website is standard.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"></div>
<blockquote>
<div>Quick-service sweet and savory crepes and waffles filled with meats, fish, chicken, cheese, vegetable and dessert items such as ice cream, chocolate mousse, chocolate and fruit.</div>
</blockquote>
<div style="text-align: justify;"></div>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The <a href="http://www.crispacrepes.com/#!sweet-crepes/chy6">placeholder website</a> for the place hints at dessert crepes named after different cities, including a Moscow with cane sugar and rum. But I can&#8217;t write a post about crepes without including the clip below, perhaps the best scene from <i>Talladega Nights</i>.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">

<p style="text-align: justify;">Some of Orange County&#8217;s recognizable food trucks are once again meeting in the parking lot of the Newsong Church every Wednesday. The regular stop for the food trucks restarted Feb. 13.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Sea Birds, Barcelona and Lime California are on the roster with others likely to stop by.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><b>Location:</b> 18842 Teller Ave. (technically you&#8217;ll see the trucks from the Jamboree side but you&#8217;ll want to drive down an alley from Teller to get to the parking lot).</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><b>Time:</b> 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., every Wednesday.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">On Feb. 13, The Burnt Truck pulled in to sell its usual slider smorgasbord including the PB&amp;J with bananas (with, you guessed it, sliced bananas fused together with homemade pretzel peanut butter and blueberry jam).</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Truck owner, <a href="http://twitter.com/daniellimetruck" target="_blank">Daniel Shemtob</a>, recently spoke with CNN Money in regards to his tactics in leading the bustling trend in Orange County, just south of Los Angeles.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Irvine, CA is a very interesting city to build up a food truck scene in, quite different from Los Angeles and other cities, because of the city’s suburban incorporated vibe littered with corporate and chain influences.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Shemtob mentions that he utilizes the chain restaurant atmosphere permeating throughout the city, and the lack of chef-driven restaurants in the area, to his advantage. Our guess is that the stereotypically stale environment ends up making the food trucks more glamorous and sought after. Plus, all the corporate parking lots make great food truck meetups — giving blue-collar and white-collar citizens mobile, chef-driven food courts just outside their work places.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Food trucks have been &#8220;having a moment&#8221; in Southern California for a few years now. And while they seem to have the strongest following in Los Angeles (<a href="http://rororoyourblog.blogspot.com/2010/05/husbands-hamburgers-vol-1.html">here&#8217;s my fave LA food truck</a>), Orange County has become quite the hot bed of activity for four-wheel foodies.</p>
<div style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9dxFo78UyOc/TZSYASRplbI/AAAAAAAABaQ/_fFpmEqf9Do/s1600/irvine_lanes_food_trucks4.jpg"><img src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9dxFo78UyOc/TZSYASRplbI/AAAAAAAABaQ/_fFpmEqf9Do/s1600/irvine_lanes_food_trucks4.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a></div>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Every Wednesday night, from 5:30 to 9, several food trucks form a covered-wagon style circle in the parking lot of <a href="http://www.irvinelanes.com/">Irvine Lanes</a>. Then folks mosey around the open space until they decide how to get their grub on.</p>
<div style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5mBa2DsRpcU/TZSYDtEbjeI/AAAAAAAABac/cWsB0BngF38/s1600/burnt_truck_irvine.jpg"><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5mBa2DsRpcU/TZSYDtEbjeI/AAAAAAAABac/cWsB0BngF38/s1600/burnt_truck_irvine.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hpbBFSQIwXg/TZSX_UdTl_I/AAAAAAAABaE/cUYUZbiVSno/s1600/irvine_lanes_food_truck1.jpg"><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hpbBFSQIwXg/TZSX_UdTl_I/AAAAAAAABaE/cUYUZbiVSno/s1600/irvine_lanes_food_truck1.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">There&#8217;s a whole lot of fusion going on&#8211;these Vietnamese pork sliders from <a href="http://theburnttruck.com/">The Burnt Truck</a> were offered alongside fried chicken sliders, Mini-Mac sliders and PB&amp;J sliders. And many of the trucks feature some sort of Asian-inspired taco.*</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sfbnVkW3nHE/TZSX_mAI5DI/AAAAAAAABaI/GFUZWRoxuhU/s1600/irvine_lanes_food_trucks2.jpg"><img src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sfbnVkW3nHE/TZSX_mAI5DI/AAAAAAAABaI/GFUZWRoxuhU/s1600/irvine_lanes_food_trucks2.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">It&#8217;s fantastic people watching! Though I will say, I did feel insanely uncool and slightly elderly. Most of the hungry hungry hipsters looked to be college students. Side-note: the other day, the woman threading my eyebrows asked if I was on spring break. Bless her.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XsyhYSPVC4w/TZSYDYZpiCI/AAAAAAAABaY/sH_-Lln6FXE/s1600/booyah_truck.jpg"><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XsyhYSPVC4w/TZSYDYZpiCI/AAAAAAAABaY/sH_-Lln6FXE/s1600/booyah_truck.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-O7vk_UsBjBg/TZSYAs3LNlI/AAAAAAAABaU/7ZnKNWdzUKs/s1600/irvine_lanes_food_trucks5.jpg"><img src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-O7vk_UsBjBg/TZSYAs3LNlI/AAAAAAAABaU/7ZnKNWdzUKs/s1600/irvine_lanes_food_trucks5.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">The lines weren&#8217;t bad at all. However as there was only one dessert option, the <a href="http://www.chunknchip.com/">Boo-Yah!! Ice-Cream Sandwich</a> truck, those with a sweet tooth (me!) had to wait for about 20 minutes.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">What do you think of the food truck phenomenon? Are you a fan? Or do you think it&#8217;s gimmicky?</div>
