Fresno, CA: New Bill Has Food Truck Owners Outraged
By | KMG Now
One state lawmaker wants to put the kabash on mobile food trucks.
Assemblyman Bill Monning of Carmel has put together legislation that would prohibit mobile food vendors from dishing up their goods within 1,500 feet of elementary and secondary schools during times when school is in session.
Monning says its a way to safeguard kids from outside hazards because having mobile food trucks parked off campus entices students to leave the safety of school grounds.
Food truck supporters say the restrictions would essentially put the mobile industry out of business by severely limiting their potential routes.
Monning’s bill – AB 1678 – is expected to be heard in committee some time next month, but still has several hurdles to surpass before reaching Governor Brown’s desk.
